No instrument matches the feeling, the vulnerability or the power of the voice. Sorry kind of long winded but felt it could help. The human voice is at the center of most popular music productions.

I have some clients that send me two folders, one with effects and creative processing done so they can show me what they are after as far as the sonics, then the other is the dry folder so i can have full control of it but can head in their desired direction. Also, I would label your tracks so they are not spending time figuring out which stems are which, have the BPM of the track and if possible the key of the track but not necessary always. As far as sending stems to engineers, you typically want them dry (no effect processing) so they have more control over the sound. For mixing in the most simplest terms, gain staging, EQ and compression will create a balanced mix and get you 80% there. You practically don't want to "try" to fix it at the mixing stage. IMO, you want to get your vocals sounding right from the recording process. Feel free to list some other popular plugins I can explore and the order I should be using the above plugins.Īre there "pre-steps" people normally take when getting their vocals mixed before they send it to the person mixing or do I literally just record my vocals over the track and let them worry about the rest? Thanks ahead of time for help. I'm also planning on having someone mix my vocals for free, I'm not expecting professional quality, I just want something out there people can reference when I try to collab. I'm familiar with the names of mixing plugins I can use from the tutorials I've been watching like the Fruity Limiter, Fruity Parametric EQ 2 and Maximus but I don't know what I'm really looking for to enhance my voice. I record and then what do I do? My unmixed vocals sound alright but with a mix I'm hoping they come out better. I'm rapping over beats that are already made so this is my rap vocals + beats. I recently got FL Studio and have been watching tutorials on youtube trying to figure it out.
